Allen County Prosecutor Juergen Waldick announced today that an Allen County Grand Jury has returned a three count indictment against Demond Jones. Jones will face an aggravated murder charge that has 3 specifications attached to it.
There is a death penalty specification, a firearm spec and a repeat violent offender specification.

Suspect Caught In Local Shooting - 03-12-2010
One of the men wanted in connection with a Wednesday night shooting outside a Lima carryout near Second and St. johns is now in custody. Lima police report Darius Upshaw turned himself in to police today. Upshaw faces one count of felonious assault in connection with the shooting of 20 year old Tyson Henderson Wednesday night.

Lawyers Move To Supress Evidence In Area Rape Case - 03-12-2010
Lawyers for the Allen county man accused of raping a toddler, try to prevent evidence and statements from being used against their client in court. During a motion to suppress hearing, Joshua Dooley's lawyers argued law enforcement officers didn't have proper cause to search for evidence of a crime at his home. Officers seized computers, cd's and memory cards on August 19th.

Police Search For Alleged Gunmen - 03-11-2010
The search for two Lima men described as armed and dangerous continues, a day after police say the 19 year olds gunned down another man sending him to the intensive care unit. Detectives say 20 year old Tyson Henderson was shot several times in the chest around 9:15 last night. The shooting took place in a parking lot near Second and St. Johns in Lima. He was immediately taken to Lima Memorial Health System.

Guilty Sentence Handed Down In Rape Case - 03-11-2010
A Findlay man is going to prison after being found guilty of raping a young girl. A jury found 44 year old Ronnie Gutierrez guilty of six counts of rape. Gutierrez was charged with raping a girl under the age of ten numerous times. Each count of rape is a first degree felony. Gutierrez could get a life sentence for each count when he is sentenced march 18th.

Car Catches Fire Near I-75 - 03-11-2010
A scary situation for a woman as other drivers warn her that her vehicle was on fire. Both Bath Fire Department and Ohio State Highway Patrol responding this morning to a burning car on State Route 81, just west of I-75. The driver was taking her two kids to school when she said other motorists were trying to caution her about flames seen in the undercarriage of her vehicle. Nobody was injured.

It's prison time for a Spencerville man who caused an accident that seriously injured an elderly couple. Lee Hurles pleaded no contest to two counts of vehicular assault for a crash last February and has been sentenced to eight years in prison. The crash seriously injured Albert and Bernata Hanjora resulting in almost a million dollars of medical expenses. Prosecutors reminded the court this is the second time Hurles has driven recklessly.

A Lima Woman Is Charged With The Death Of A Celina Man - 03-10-2010
A Lima woman is charged in the death of a Celina man, because of her alleged involvement in providing him drugs. The Mercer County Sheriff's Office says 54 year old Vicky Sprow has been charged with three felonies, involuntary manslaughter, reckless homicide, and trafficking in drugs. The charges stem from Sprow's alleged role in providing the drugs that led to 38 year old Bradley Heckman's death.

The new hi-tech radio communication system for a 7 county region is nearly complete. The multi agency radio communication system or marcs is an 800 megahertz digital system. Ohio State University says an employee shot two co-workers in a campus maintenance building, killing one of them, then fatally shot himself. University police identify the suspect as 51 year old Nathaniel Brown, a custodial employee. Authorities say Brown recently received a poor performance evaluation, but declined to say if that was a motive for the shooting. Records show Brown was told last week he was being fired.

Essa Get 20 Years For Killing His Wife WIth Cyanide - 03-09-2010
CLEVELAND (AP) - Relatives of the victim sobbed and held each other as a judge in Ohio handed down a life prison term for a doctor convicted of killing his wife with cyanide.
Forty-one-year-old Yazeed Essa (EE'-suh) was sentenced Tuesday in Cleveland. He could be eligible for parole after 20 years.
Essa was convicted last week of lacing his wife's calcium supplement with cyanide in 2005.

Death Row Inmate On Suicide Watch - 03-09-2010
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Officials say an Ohio inmate who intentionally overdosed on pills hours before his scheduled execution has returned to prison and is on suicide watch.
Prisons spokeswoman Julie Walburn says 43-year-old Lawrence Reynolds Jr., who admitted taking an overdose, arrived at the Ohio State Penitentiary in Youngstown at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday.
Walburn says Reynolds is isolated from other inmates and under constant observation by staff.

CLEVELAND (AP) - Authorities say they found a switchblade knife taped beneath a Cleveland courtroom table where an Ohio man charged with murder was seated during his trial.
Cuyahoga County sheriff's spokesman John O'Brien says a deputy noticed Joaquin Hicks fidgeting under the table Friday when he was brought into Common Pleas Court.
O'Brien says the deputy discovered the blade and the courtroom was immediately cleared out.

MARYSVILLE, Ohio (AP) - Authorities say a small plane traveling from Indianapolis to Pennsylvania crashed in Ohio, killing two people.
Jerome Township Fire Chief Scott Skeldon says a search began Friday after the plane failed to make a scheduled refueling stop at the Union County Airport.
The single-engine aircraft was found in a wooded area about 8:30 p.m.
Skeldon says the names of the victims weren't available.

With the rising number of child abuse and neglect cases in Allen County, children services is reminding everyone of the importance of its renewal levy. In 2009, the organization worked with the most children since 2002, all while dealing with budget cuts and staff adjustments. Three Arrested In Beating Death of Alpaca - 03-02-2010
MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (AP) - Authorities have charged three people in the theft and fatal beating of a baby alpaca in southwest Ohio.
Butler County sheriff's officials say two 17-year-old boys are charged in juvenile court with animal cruelty, breaking and entering, and tampering with evidence. A 22-year-old woman faces complicity charges, for allegedly driving the truck the alpaca was moved in.

The sheriff's office reports 74 year old Marjorie Williams of 19-07 Zeits Avenue was found dead in her Perry Township home Saturday afternoon.

This past year Perry Township had some crime issues that brought residents and township officials together to discuss a full-time police department. A police levy failed in November, 2009. A two vehicle accident in downtown Lima late this morning sends one person to the hospital. Lima police and fire responded to the intersection of Central Avenue and Market Street around 11:30. Police say the green Ford Taurus was traveling eastbound on Market and crashed into a northbound Chrysler. The female driver of the Taurus suffered visible injuries and was transported from the scene by Lima fire rescue squad.

Sixty percent of employers recently surveyed by the Society for Human Resources Management say they run credit checks on at least some job applicants. That's compared with 42 percent in a somewhat similar survey in 2006.

The man who played Klinger on TV's "M.A.S.H." came back to the city where he grew up to narrate a Toledo Symphony performance. While in town, he spent time with retired car salesman Greg Morris, a friend for 70 years who now suffers from lung cancer. Morris has been told he has just one to four months to live.

We now know the name of the elderly woman killed in a home invasion sometime on Saturday. This afternoon, the Allen County Sheriff's Department identified the victim as 74 year old Marjorie Williams. Her body was found by a family member inside her home at 19-07 Zeits Avenue. Investigators believe the incident happened some time between midnight Friday, to around 1 o'clock Saturday afternoon.

The state says a little more than one thousand people lost their lives in traffic crashes in 2009 although a tragic number, that's a 14 percent decline from 2008. But during the same time period, Allen county's fatalities jumped from eleven in 2008, to fourteen in 2009.

40 year old Todd Mohler pleading not guilty to one count of misdemeanor assault. Judge Ric Workman ordering a 2 thousand dollar unsecured bond and added a condition to the bond that Mohler is not allowed to drink alcohol or be in any establishment that serves it. In January, Mohler got in a fight with fellow deputy Mark Murphy, who has already entered a written guilty plea to a charge of disorderly conduct. The court fined him 25 dollars and court costs.

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) — Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray today announced that Ohio's county sheriffs issued a record number of concealed handgun licenses last year.
In 2009 the total number of handgun licenses issued to Ohioans was 56,691, well above the previous high of 45,497 set in 2004 when the concealed handgun law first went into effect.

FOSTORIA, Ohio (AP) - The Ohio Seismic Network says a small earthquake has hit northwest Ohio, with reports of wobbly legs, rattling windows and a loud boom.
Network Coordinator Michael Hansen said Thursday that a preliminary analysis shows the earthquake's center was between Bettsville and Fostoria and that it ranked around a 2.4 or 2.5 on the 10-point Richter magnitude scale.

GENEVA-ON-THE-LAKE, Ohio (AP) - A man who renovates old homes in Ohio has found and returned the wallet lost by a Florida man more than 60 years ago.
Jerry Busch says he was putting in wiring four years ago when he found Henry Leland's wallet in the rafters of a house in Geneva-on-the-Lake, 45 miles northeast of Cleveland.
Eighty-one-year-old Leland says the wallet was stolen during a weekend he spent in the area in 1949.

A new report out today finds Ohio taxpayers have shelled out more than 2 million dollars to enforce the state's smoking ban. The ban took effect in 2007. The Ohio Department of Health says the state has spent more than 3.2 million dollars to fine businesses that are in violation of the ban. Statewide, 1.2 million dollars in fines have been issued, but only about 400 thousand has been collected.

Sharing Pastors - 02-21-2010
For the past two decades, leaders of the catholic church say they've noticed a decline in the number of priests, and to address that concern in northwest Ohio, ten catholic churches will be sharing pastors. Father Stephen Blum from St. Charles Church on Elm Street will be one of the pastors taking on another parish in what the catholic diocese of Toledo call, twinning. Blum will be a pastor for St. Patricks parish in Spencerville.

MASON, Ohio (AP) - A job fair at a Cincinnati-area amusement park has drawn a lot of interest this year. A spokesman for Kings Island Amusement Park says 2,335 people turned up yesterday. It was the largest one-day turnoug in the park's 38-year history. Organizers say more than 10,000 people have applied for roughly 4,000 positions for the season starting in April.

The game of life is all Jane Woods and her fellow pretend inmates have to do on a Saturday morning as they experience the new Mercer County jail. A loss of privacy, a loss of comfort, and a loss of freedom is what these innocent, yet curious citizens wanted to find out. They stayed overnight, almost like real inmates as Mercer County authorities wanted to evaluate their new jail.

Heavy Compacted Snow Is To Blame - 02-20-2010
Repairs are underway today at a Bluelick Road greenhouse after its roof collapsed on Friday. Employees at Forget-Me-Not Garden Center heard a crash, and found snow and plastic panels inside one of their three buildings. Recent heavy compacted snow is to blame for the collapse. Co-owner Gary Austin says the collapse occurred in a building housing perennials that were dormant for the winter. Austin says the damage will not affect them opening in the spring.

Toddler Death Ruled Homicide - 02-19-2010
CLEVELAND (AP) - A coroner's office in Cleveland says the death of a 2-year-old girl who had extensive burns all over her body has been ruled a homicide.
Cuyahoga County Coroner's spokesman Powell Caesar says Alexandria Hamilton of Cleveland died Wednesday of thermal injuries, which are caused by water or steam and are consistent with scalding.
The girl was found unresponsive by paramedics at an apartment with her mother.

MOSCOW, Ohio (AP) - An Ohio man says he bulldozed his home after a bank began foreclosure proceedings and says he won't let the bank take his carpet business either.
Terry Hoskins of Moscow in southwest Ohio says he has struggled with the RiverHills Bank over his Clermont County home for years and had problems with the Internal Revenue Service.

CLEVELAND (AP) - The second woman in an Ohio love triangle says her affair with a doctor charged in his wife's cyanide death was casual, not an infatuation.

A Century Old Building In Danger Of Collapsing In Bluffton - 02-18-2010
Heavy snow buildup on the roof of Groves Bears is causing the interior roof line to sink about one to two feet in some places. This morning employees noticed the visible damage and called the fire department to inspect the building further.
Police Chief Rick Skilliter says the damage includes a separation in the walls and fractures to the building's beams.

Body Found, Remains Eaten By Dogs - 02-18-2010
LIBERTY, Ohio (AP) - Authorities in Ohio say they found a dismembered body inside a house with three dogs, which had been eating the remains.
A dog warden says body parts were "all over the place."
Liberty Towship Police Chief Richard Tisone says the dogs were vicious and kept officers from entering the home Tuesday evening, so they had to shoot two of the animals.
