Kids of all ages saddled up their horses for the horse show at the Allen County Fair today. Many don't realize how much work goes into showing animals at the fair especially horses. Being a part of 4-h may sound like fun but it does come with some hard and occasionally dirty work. Both girls say that preparing for a show can be very time consuming. Taylor says it may be a lot of hard work but all the fun at the fair makes it worth it.

The 36th annual Bremenfest in New Bremen concludes tonight but residents gathered early to take part in the annual parade. The parade was scheduled to begin at one o'clock today but that didn't stop people from lining up along Washington Street almost an hour before-hand. The parade lineup was like that of any usual parade, firetrucks, festival royalty in convertibles and even politicians. Kids in New Bremen say they look forward to the event every year.

73 percent of the cost involved for the renovation project for the school in Dola, was funded through the Ohio school facilities commission. Evea Worst is a long time resident of the Hardin Northern school district. She was in attendance for a dedication Sunday to mark completion of a 14 million dollar building renovation project. Superintendent Larry Claypool says planning for the project started eight years ago.

Second Annual Rally Point River Ride - 08-21-2010
 
Nearly 150 cyclists hit the trail to benefit children. The second annual rally point river ride was held at the Ottawa Metro Park. Proceeds from the river ride go to the Rally Point Youth Center on Lima's north side. The funds are used to support and create new after school programs. Riders from around the region supported the event including a family who came from Dayton. Three different distance rides were held.

Gallons of diesel fuel and agricultural lime caused Interstate 75 to be blocked for well over an hour this afternoon. Around three o'clock an suv entering traffic on southbound 75 lost control and swurved in front of a semi. The driver of the semi swurved to avoid a collision and lost control of the truck. The semi hit the barrier cables in the median and struck an overhead traffic sign which crashed down onto the interstate.

Lima police say they are making progress in the case involving the murder of a Lima man earlier this week. 32 year old James Malloy was gunned down at his home at 230 east Second street on Tuesday night. Malloy died of a single gunshot wound to the head. Lima police were pleased that the city's first homicide a day earlier was solved so quickly. They know the longer an investigation draws out, the tougher it gets to solve. the evidence gets older each day and people's memories fade.

There's a group of 15 or so men that have been doing work in this area and the police and the better business bureau have been getting complaints about the high pressure tactics being used to get the sale. According to Shawnee township police sergeant Greg Hoffer, the travelers that are hitting this area go by the business name of central asphalt and have taken homeowners in Shawnee township and parts of Auglaize county for thousands of dollars and performed shoddy work.

25 year old Hager Church of Lima made his initial appearance in municipal court on a murder charge today. Judge Ric Workman set Church's bond at 10 million dollars with a 10% privilege, meaning church would need a million dollars to get released from jail. A longtime court official believes this is the highest bond the court has ever set.

A Shawnee Township woman found guilty of producing meth and other drug related charges received her sentence today in Allen County common pleas court. 42 year old Tina Myers was sentenced to a total of four years in prison for illegal assembly and possession of drugs and tampering with evidence. Her defense states that Myers had no criminal record before this case.

Lima police have been working around the clock looking for clues into Lima's second homicide this week. Lima police responded to 2-30 East Second Street at about 10:15 last night. A woman was found lying on the floor with blood around the neck area.

The accident occurred southeast of Ada, in Cessna Township around 3:00 this morning. 18 year old Gary Spradlin the second, of Kenton and his passenger 20 year old Anthony Hall of Ada, were traveling southbound on Township Road 55, when they failed to yield at a stop sign, and were struck by 37 year old Thomas Lawrence of Agler, who was westbound on County Road 50.

Police were called out to the Fifth Third Bank branch on Bellefontaine street just before 12:30 this afternoon. Authorities report that a black male entered the bank and demanded money from a teller. The bank had a handful of customers at the time of the robbery, no one was injured and no weapon was shown. Police dogs where brought in to track the suspect, but lost his trail behind a near by restaurant. It has not been determined whether or not the suspect got into a vehicle.

Exotic Dancer Charged in Dragging Death - 08-13-2010
MONROE, Ohio (AP) - An exotic dancer hired for a private show in a southwest Ohio home says the man kept putting his hands on her before she fled to her car, leading to his dragging death.
A police report states that 35-year-old Kristina Hensley of Higginsport, Ohio, told an officer in Monroe that 31-year-old Jae Cho kept touching her inappropriately.

Alleged Hate Crime Suspects In Custody - 08-12-2010
Just before 11 on Wednesday officers responded to a home on south High street in Pandora. There they found 44 year old John Dally unconscious suffering from head injuries. He was transported to Saint Rita's Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.


Police investigation found that Dally had been assaulted by two men, 30 year old Larry Vanatta the second of Bluffton and 35 year old Jason Davis of Lima.

High School Students Meet Health Care Professionals - 08-12-2010
This is the second year for the Multicultural Summer Youth program at Saint Rita's Medical Center. The program not only introduces the health care profession to minority high school students, but also gives them the hands on experience to help them make better decision about their future.

The students worked in various departments like bio-medical and transportation. Participants say they got a lot out of the hands on training.

Both fire and police investigators immediately began looking at the suspicious blaze. Believing the fire was not an accident evidence has been presented to an Allen County grand jury over the past few months to see if an indictment against one individual was warranted.

Lima police are asking for assistance to try and catch two men who robbed the Kings Korner drive-thru last week. Police have released surveillance video of the two suspects cleaning out cash registers and the safe. Both men were dressed in all black. One is believed to be a teenager 16 to 18 years old. The other man is believed to be in his early to mid 20's. The clerk never saw a gun but the robbers led her to believe they had a weapon.

A man prosecutors say was the head cook of a methamphetamine operation in Lima has pleaded guilty to charges related to the June 2009 raid at his house. Jason Deibel pleaded guilty to three counts. Weapons under disability, a felony of the third degree. Aggravated possession of meth, also a third degree felony and illegal manufacturing of meth with specifications. Two other charges were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.

A Harrod man is dead after his motorcycle collided with a deer Saturday night. 67 year old Thomas Helser was riding his motorcycle on Peeve Road, when a deer ran across the roadway from an adjacent field, into his path. Helser was unable to avoid the collision, and upon impact was ejected from the motorcycle. The Lafayette emergency squad transported Helser to Lima Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Law enforcement officials need your help to solve a rash of robberies including one at the Kings Korner drive thru last night. Lima police detective Tim Clark says the robbery took place around 9:30. A nearly 200 page report looking at improving the efficiency of the Ohio State Highway patrol will mean some changes across the state. One of those changes could mean the dispatchers that currently work at the Van Wert post, would move to the Findlay post. Since the Findlay post is the headquarters of district one, the operations will move to somewhere in Hancock county.

16 people have contacted health officials about illnesses they believe were caused by exposure to water at grand lake Saint Marys. According to the Ohio Department of Health, 14 of those cases are still being investigated, and could be due to toxins created by the massive blue-green algae blooms in the lake. The two other cases have been ruled out because there was no actual contact with lake water.

The commissioner's office coded the levy request as Children's Services instead of senior citizens, which caused the levy to be denied for placement on the November ballot. Two Lima men accused of trying to pass counterfeit money at some Putnam County businesses are indicted by grand jury. 26 year old Jajuan Carter and 21 year old Vincent Austin Junior were arrested in Ottawa after allegedly buying items at the Ottawa Party Mart with counterfeit cash. Formal charges for both men include complicity, forgery, and uttering which is the act of knowingly using counterfeit money.

Lima police have their hands full with a couple of robberies in the past 24 hours. The latest occurred at the Fifth-Third Bank branch on North Cable Road. Just before the noon hour a male subject entered the bank and demanded money. He did brandish a weapon. He fled the bank on foot but was later seen in a cab. Officers pursued the vehicle to Blackburn and Spring Street. The cab driver exited the vehicle and the suspect got behind the wheel.

A Lima man is headed to prison after pleading guilty to a 2009 robbery. 21 year old Victor Austin Junior entered a guilty plea today in Allen County common pleas court to a charge of robbery, a third degree felony. He had originally been charged with aggravated robbery with a firearm specification, a first degree felony. Judge Jeffrey Reed accepted the guilty plea and sentenced Austin to three years in prison.

The first robbery Lima police handled occurred at 2am today at the Circle K convenience store and gas station on North West Street. Lima police say a black male entered the store and demanded money. No weapon was shown but the encounter between the suspect and the clerk did get physical. The two robberies are not believed to be connected. The Circle K robber was wearing a ski mask. He was described as about 6 foot tall wearing snap on sweat pants.

Tom Staup was charged with three misdemeanor counts after an April first incident at his ex-girlfriends home. Staup entered pleas this week to two of the charges while a third was dismissed. Staup pleads guilty to persistent disorderly conduct and disorderly conduct by intoxication. Lima Municipal Court judge William Lauber put Staup on one year probation, suspended a 30 day jail sentence, fined him 300 dollars and ordered alcohol counseling.

Brown is filling Moyer's unexpired term and is up for re-election this fall. Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers seized over 15 hundred prescription pain pills from 28 year old Jessica Smith during a routine traffic stop earlier this week. A grand jury returned a two count indictment against Smith. She faces charges of aggravated possession of drugs a second degree felony and possession of drugs a third degree felony.

A Lima man busted by the West Central Ohio Crime Task Force earlier this month has been deemed a threat to the community. 37 year old Gary Eugene Thomas is charged with possession of cocaine. On July 16th, the task force raided several Lima properties after a lengthy investigation. A large amount of crack and crack cocaine, three handguns, and a large amount of cash were seized.

The Celina man arrested on Monday attempting to sneak contraband into the Allen Correctional Institution was in court today. 27 year old Christopher Pickens Hughes is charged with attempting to convey drugs onto the grounds of a detention facility, a third degree felony. Pickens Hughes appeared in Lima municipal court for his initial appearance before Judge Ric Workman. Judge Workman set Hughes' bond at 500 thousand dollars with a ten percent privilege.

A recently formed relationship between the Shawnee Township Police Department and the West Central Ohio Crime Task Force results in one man's arrest after drugs are found in his home. Members of the task force arrested Matthew Lawrence at his home on Tillamook Trail in Shawnee Township. Law enforcement officials found 60 hits of acid as well marijuana, cash, and other drug related items at the home. Lawrence was arrested on a probation violation.
