The Wapakoneta Civil Service Commission hosting a quasi-judicial hearing to hear complaints about the test given to chief candidates in which Lieutenant Russ Hunlock scored slightly better than Lieutenant Greg Lowery, making Hunlock the new chief. Attorneys for Lowery protested answers of three questions on the test, saying those inquiries contained more than one correct answer. They also requested one question be thrown out because it was phrased poorly.

Health Care Cuts For Allen County Employees. - 11-19-2009
Premiums will stay the same but Allen County employees will see a reduction in health insurance coverage, in a plan to save the county money during a difficult economy. Commissioners adopting several resolutions to authorize the changes in health insurance. A committee headed up by several county employees analyzed different options from changing providers to decreasing benefits in an effort to save the county's general fund thousands of dollars during a special meeting today.

A man in Northeast Allen County is lifeflighted to St. Rita's medical center this morning after being hit by a garbage truck.
The victim, 26 year old Aaron Koolger of Bluffton, is an employee of the garbage company, Koogler Refuse out of Beaverdam. Authorities were called to the scene around 9 am after Koogler, who was working on the corner of Mehaffey Road, was struck when the truck backed up onto him. Officials with St.

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - An Ohio judge has stuck with a sentence he initially made relying on the wrong case notes, and now the prosecutor wants to appeal.
A spokesman for Montgomery County Prosecutor Mathias Heck in Dayton calls 23-year-old defendant Turell Justice "a dangerous, repeat and violent offender" who should have received more than seven years for a home invasion.

Damaged Fire Hydrants Put Lives At Risk - 11-19-2009
CANTON, Ohio (AP) - An Ohio fire department with hydrants so badly vandalized that they're useless during fires is offering a $750 reward.
Canton fire officials say hydrants have been damaged heavily in one neighborhood and firefighters were unable to get water from them during a recent house fire.
Fire Chief Stephen Rich says in a statement that tampering with hydrants puts lives at risk.

FAA Glitch Causes Few Problem For Ohio Air Travelers - 11-19-2009
CINCINNATI (AP) - Airports serving Ohio travelers report no major problems from a glitch in an FAA system that collects airlines' flight plans.
Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport says there have been minor delays for departures. Airport spokeswoman Barb Schempf says Delta Air Lines has reported 30-minute delays for flights out of Cincinnati. Most of the 284 daily departures from the airport are Delta flights.

Van Wert Fatal - 11-18-2009
The Van Wert post of the state highway patrol says it happened around 7:30 on US 127 just south of Cooper Road in Pleasant Township. Troopers say a 2007 GMC straight truck driven by 53 year old Mack Dunson, of Dayton, was northbound on 127 when he drove left of center striking two southbound commercial vehicles. Dunson was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the vehicle was transported to Van Wert County hospital with minor injuries.

CINCINNATI (AP) - Beam Global Spirits & Wine says it plans to close its Cincinnati bottling plant in two years, shedding 184 jobs.

A Putnam County woman is dead following a one vehicle crash this afternoon. The State Highway Patrol says it happened around 1:15 on State Route 613, just west of road 5, east of Leipsic. 82 year old Carolyn Christman, of Leipsic, was driving a 1998 Oldsmobile intrigue westbound on 613, when she drove off the roadway and struck 3 headstones in the Sugar Ridge Cemetery. A court appearance today for a St. Henry woman who was the babysitter of a six month old boy who died in July of 2008. 45 year old Tammy Evers was recently arrested and charged with one count of perjury. The Mercer County sheriff's office and prosecutor Allege Evers gave false testimony during a hearing involving the death of Trevor Stammen. Evers was arraigned in Mercer County municipal court today.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Nebraska is not reconsidering its planned switch from electrocution to a three-drug lethal injection cocktail to execute inmates, despite Ohio's decision to start using a single-drug injection following a botched execution attempt, officials said Monday.

The Lima YWCA has had it's share of battles this year. The child day care closed down last month and the fitness and aquatic center after much fight, is closing. And today a sale was held in an attempt to liquidate the center's equipment. The sale started at one o' clock and ran until four. Items ranging from dumbells to over 50 cardio, weight, and nautilus machines were put on sale. Some of the bigger machines were tagged with minimum bids.

Natural Gas Rates Drop Dramatically - 11-13-2009
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Ohio's largest natural gas company says next month's rates will be the lowest for December in eight years.
Columbia Gas of Ohio informed state utility regulators Thursday that it plans to charge 49 cents per 100 cubic feet of natural gas, down from 70 cents a year ago. It means the typical customer will have a $92 December gas bill, compared to $170 for the same month in 2008.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Ohio has become the first state to adopt a one-drug approach to lethal injections, a method used routinely on house pets but never tried on humans.

Funeral Services For Cleveland Murder Victims Begin Thursday - 11-12-2009
CLEVELAND (AP) - Funeral services are getting under way for some of the 11 victims whose bodies were found in the Cleveland home of a registered sex offender.
The service for 31-year-old Telacia (tuh-LAY'-shuh) Fortson of East Cleveland was scheduled Thursday at Grace Missionary Baptist Church. Hers was the second body identified from the home of Anthony Sowell, who is charged with five counts of aggravated murder.

Seniors Who Were Tight, Died Within Days of Each Other - 11-12-2009
CINCINNATI (AP) - A Cincinnati man and woman married more than 60 years have not been separated long by death.
Eighty-six-year-old Laura Presutto died Sunday. Her husband, Joseph Presutto, who was the same age, died Tuesday at the nursing home where they shared a room.
Their only child, Donna Presutto, says the bond between her parents was extraordinarily strong.

Lima police Lt. Jim Baker says the preliminary results of autopsies performed on 61 year old Michael Bassitt and 56 year old Julie Bassitt show that Michael shot his wife once killing her, then turned the gun on himself. Both died of a single gunshot wound.

Lima police have disclosed that detectives are investigating the citys 5th homicide of the year. Police were called to 5-25 Prospect Avenue on the citys eastside at about 6:20 last night. Upon their arrival two bodies were found in the home, both dead from gunshot wounds. Police have identified the deceased as 61 year old Michael Bassitt and his wife 56 year old Julie Bassitt. Kimberly Godsey's Trial Date Has Been Set - 11-03-2009
A trial date has been set for one of the women police say was involved in the godsey drug organization. Kimberly Godsey is scheduled for trial January 12th. She's one of the 16 arrested in Lima's drug enforcement operation with the FBI on October 22nd. Godsey is charged with possession of crack cocaine, with an additional specification charge due to the amount of drugs on her during the arrest. A pre-trial is set for December 14th.

Former State Police Chief Investigated For Meal Reimbursement - 11-03-2009
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - An investigation has found that Ohio's former Highway Patrol chief failed to disclose an internal patrol account as the source of meals he was reimbursed for.
The report says Richard Collins should have listed the account as the reimbursement source for $167 in meals in 2007 and $183 in meals in 2008 as required by law.

Cemetery Owner Files Civil Suit Against Family of Vandals - 11-03-2009
ST. BERNARD, Ohio (AP) - The owner of two Ohio cemeteries has filed a civil lawsuit against the families of three juveniles convicted of doing more than $300,000 in vandalism.
But officials with the Cincinnati Catholic Cemetery Society say they fear they'll recover only a small fraction of the money needed to make repairs to St. Mary and St. John cemeteries.

CLEVELAND (AP) - Investigators trying to identify the bodies of six women found in the home of a convicted rapist are focusing the inquiry on eight or nine missing women, the coroner said Monday.
It could take days or weeks to identify the bodies using dental records or DNA mouth-swab samples from relatives. Cuyahoga County Coroner Frank Miller said his office has begun the "arduous" process of collecting materials from dentists and relatives.

Gas Prices Continue To Climb - 11-02-2009
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Prices for gasoline in Ohio have gone up another 3 cents in the past week, and gas now costs 35 cents more in the state than it did last month.
A survey from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and Wright Express puts the current statewide average for regular-grade gas at $2.66, up from $2.63 last Monday.
One month ago, regular was averaging $2.31 in Ohio.

Victims Names Of Columbus Grove Fire Released - 11-02-2009
Authorities have released the names of the two women who died in a mobile home fire in Columbus Grove this weekend.
24 year-old Barbara Krontz and 64-year old Diane Sherman died in the blaze on 202 North Main Street, just before 2 Saturday morning.
