Operation Gratitude - 11/1/2009
Dentists in Findlay are asking for kids' halloween candy and are donating it to a worthy cause. Hundreds of pounds of candy was collected for operation gratitude a program where dentists take the hard earned candy from trick-or-treating and donate it to our troops overseas. Most kids think it's a good deal. For every pound of candy donated a one dollar bill is given. Dentists Kathryn Lewis and Bruce Mutchler say they chose to organize this program for the troops, and to help fight the cavaties the kids might get after halloween. They say asking the kids give candy to the troops wasn't like pulling teeth. The operation's goal was four hundred pounds of candy and after just a half hour they were already halfway there. Staff Sergeant Smith recalls what happened when he received candy as he was serving overseas. Those at operation gratitude say they realize giving some of their halloween candy is a sacrifice, but they know the troops' sacrifice is even greater.
