Advisors Tell Strickland That Lethal Injection Process Can Be Fixed - 11/4/2009

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Two Republican lawmakers advising Ohio's Democratic governor on changes to the state's lethal injection process say it shouldn't be hard to fix the system.

Sen. Bill Seitz, of Cincinnati, says it's possible that doctors from other states or retired doctors could help Ohio carry out executions.

Sen. Tim Grendell, from northeast Ohio, says he agreed to help because he doesn't want what he calls liberal forces to try to eliminate Ohio's death penalty.

The state has said it was having difficulty finding medical professionals willing to advise it on the death penalty because of ethical and professional rules.

Gov. Ted Strickland temporarily halted executions after a September lethal injection was postponed because executioners failed to find a usable vein.
