Both Sides Worked Hard To Have Their Side Prevail - 11/4/2009

Both sides of the sales tax increase issue worked hard to have their side prevail. One side walks away pleased, the other disappointed. Tim Dehaven headed up the committee to keep the half percent sales tax increase on the books. Dehaven says he wishes he had had more time to get the message out that the additional tax dollars were needed. He understands it's a tough economic time for residents. However, he also notices Hancock County passed its sales tax, and Findlay passed a school levy and income tax increase. Vernik says there is money in the form of utilities that would be saved if the commissioners would consolidate or sell some of its properties. Dehaven quoted Sir Winston Churchill saying, this is not the end, not even the beginning of the end, but rather the end of the beginning.
