State Issue Three In Ohio Passed - 11/4/2009
Don't expect to be playing the slots or being dealt a hand of black jack anytime soon. State issue three in Ohio passed by a 53 to 47 percent margin Tuesday. That okays casinos in Toledo, Cincinnati, Columbus and Cleveland. One Ohio lawmaker is already saying he'll pursue a constitutional amendment for the state to get a greater share of the casinos proceeds. Ohio Northern political science professor Dr. Rob Alexander says there are other potential bumps in the road before the casinos open for business. Alexander says 3 of the 4 cities that would get a casino also had mayoral elections on the ballot. He believes that brought out the voters. Interestly, of the 4 counties that would get casinos, Cuyahoga, Franklin, Hamilton and Lucas, all voted in favor of state issue 3 with the exception of Franklin County. Columbus did not have a mayoral race.
