Perry Township's Police Levy Was Defeated - 11/4/2009
Perry Township's effort to fund more police protection was defeated Tuesday. Nearly 600 ballots were cast opposed to the tax levy, only 461 in favor. That's a 57 to 43 percent margin. Your News Now contacted Perry police Chief Tom Staup today. He says with the defeat of the levy the department will stay as it currently is. He feels there was too much confusion as to whether the levy would fund a part-time or full-time department. He says that won't be a problem next time. Staup says the plan is to go for another levy, but this time to fund a full-time department, possibly as early as the spring primary 2010.
