Allied Environmental Takes Over Trash Duties For Lima City - 11/6/2009

Lima residents will be seeing new garbage rates after December first, with Allied Environmental taking over for Waste Management.

Lima City Council will receive a letter from utilities director Gary Sheely asking the legislative body to approve the new rate structure.

The monthly cost to residents will be $19.72 a month, up from $16.59 with the old contract under Waste Management.

It is still lower than Waste Management's offer for this new 5 year contract of $24.62.

Sheely says a small increase from 5 years ago is expected, but now they are locked in for the next 5 years.

Sheely says Allied has obtained some property in town, so they will have a local presence.

He also says concerns about Waste Management drivers losing their jobs has been addressed. Allied hired a number of those drivers to run routes for them.

They are also familiar with the routes.

Sheely stresses to residents that your pick up day will not change, but have your garbage out by 6am on the day of pick up. Allied has one or two more trucks than Waste Management and they may pick up your trash earlier than you are used to.
