Governor Announces Investments to Create, Retain 1,245 Jobs in Northwest Ohio Including Hardin County - 7/26/2010

Columbus, OH – Ohio Governor Ted Strickland today announced $8 million for economic development projects that are expected to create 443 jobs and retain 802 jobs in Northwest Ohio. The funds were approved at today’s Ohio Tax Credit Authority and Development Financing Advisory Council meetings.

“By making strategic investments in our growing industries, we not only help our business owners create and save good jobs but we also strengthen Northwest Ohio’s local economy and build a foundation for continued prosperity,” Strickland said.


American Rail Center, Inc. (Hardin County) has been awarded a Logistics and Distribution Loan from the Ohio Bipartisan Job Stimulus Plan for more than $3.5 million. The loan will be used for the purchase of land, site preparation, infrastructure improvements, and rail construction for a rail logistics center, which will provide valuable resources to wind projects in Central and Northwest Ohio. The more than $4.7 million project is expected to create 25 jobs.

Owens-Brockway Glass Container, Inc. has been awarded a 50 percent Job Creation Tax Credit for a seven-year term as a result of the company’s expansion project in the City of Perrysburg (Wood County). The value of the tax credit is estimated at $2.4 million over the term, and the company would be required to maintain operations at the project site for 10 years. Owens produces glass containers for beer, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks in a range of sizes, shapes, and colors. This project includes the renovation of its existing facility to include a new Glass and Materials Science Laboratory. The more than $14 million project is expected to create 55 jobs and retain 802 positions.

Ruralogic, Inc. has been awarded a 60 percent Job Creation Tax Credit for an eight-year term as a result of the company’s new location in the Village of Archbold (Fulton County). The value of the tax credit is estimated at $707,700 over the term, and the company would be required to maintain operations at the project site for 11 years. Ruralogic provides Tier 1 corporate software development services such as report writing, forms development, SharePoint management, and NET and JAVA development. This $230,000 project includes the expansion of an existing leased building, and is expected to create 121 jobs.

The value of the tax credit is estimated at $707,700 over the term, and the company would be required to maintain operations at the project site for 11 years. Ruralogic provides Tier 1 corporate software development services such as report writing, forms development, SharePoint management, and NET and JAVA development. This $870,000 project includes the expansion of an existing 17,000-square-foot building, and is expected to create 121 jobs.
