Football moves to No. 18 in fifth weekly D3Football.com poll
By Tim Glon

ADA — The Ohio Northern football team is ranked No. 18 in the fifth weekly D3Football.com poll.

The Polar Bears (2-2 overall, 1-2 Ohio Athletic Conference) posted a thrilling 37-34 victory at Muskingum on Saturday night.

ONU was ranked No. 7 in the second weekly poll after their 28-19 victory over then-No. 4 North Central (Ill.) on Sept. 5, but fell back to No.9 after dropping a 30-10 decision to No. 1 Mount Union on Sept. 19.

Northern was then ranked No. 16 in the fourth weekly poll.

Interestingly, Northern fell two spots in the poll despite receiving nine more points in the poll than last week. ONU received 140 points in the fifth weekly poll after receiving 131 points last week.

Leading the way and earning 22 of the 25 first-place votes is defending national champion Mount Union with 622 points.

Wisconsin-Whitewater is second with 602 points and three first place votes, Mary Hardin-Baylor (Tex.) is third with 576 points, Wheaton (Ill.) is fourth with 523 points and Wesley (Del.) is fifth with 512 points.

The Polar Bears have now appeared in the D3Football.com poll in six consecutive seasons.

Northern, which has won seven of its last 10 games dating to last season, will play host to Heidelberg this Saturday at 1:3o pm at Dial-Roberson Stadium as part of ONU's Homecoming Weekend.
