David De Rurange
Everybody starts his or her career somewhere, and for me what better place
than Lima! If you see me reporting in town, more than likely you'll see me
doing it all as a one-man band reporter. That means I shoot, write, edit,
and report stories independently. I believe this kind of reporting gives me
an advantage, at every step of the way, to frame detailed stories about
what's happening and how it affects us.
I hail from Bountiful, Utah. I graduated from Brigham Young University
('09) with a major in broadcast journalism and a minor in business
management. I reported, produced, and anchored for BYU's award winning
Daily News show. My work there received national acclaim from the Broadcast
Education Association's Festival of Media Arts, awarding me second place for
sports anchoring.
Just before making the move to Ohio, I finished my internship at KTVX Salt
Lake City where I learned multimedia journalism, translating news stories
into various mediums other than television including mobile news and
webcasts.
My experiences in Boy Scouts and serving a two-year LDS mission have greatly
influenced my zeal for life and news reporting.
I enjoy watching movies with my wife, Julie, on our laptop.
I also enjoy seeing people try to say my last name, De Rurange. If you need
a hint on how to pronounce it just think of it in three parts
(Day-Roo-Ronj). Though my last name is French, I'm actually part Chilean,
hence I live and breath soccer. I'm also always looking for new rivals in
Ping Pong.
I've quickly realized how WLIO's news team cares about Lima and I look
forward to sharing that passion with you.
