DARREN MAIER
Chief Meteorologist,
dmaier@wlio.com
My career as an "OCM" or on-camera meteorologist began here at WLIO-NBC LIMA
in March of 2003.. and for me, the fulfillment of a long dream come true. Prior
to my arrival, Connecticut was home base. I received my B.S. in atmospheric science
from Central CT. State University and eventually, certification from the CT.
Schools of Broadcasting. I credit my last job, a weather consulting firm in southeast
New York, for giving me vast forecasting experience, and catching the "broadcasting bug".
While there, I was a voice on several northeast radio stations, including the Hudson Valley's
WHUD, WOKQ & WASR in New Hampshire, and the Stephen King owned WKIT in Bangor, Maine.
Making the transition to TV was naturally the next step, and an easy, yet difficult
decision. I thank my wife Keri for her support and willingness to uproot our growing family.
In addition to our son, we have since been blessed with a baby girl.
West Central Ohio can certainly keep a meteorologist busy, with thunderstorms,
floods, tornadoes, snow and ice. My goal every night is to bring our viewers an
understanding and explanation of the forecast, providing the best weather coverage in
West Central Ohio. Feel free to drop me a line or e-mail anytime, to ask a weather
question, share your own local storm report, or experience!
